When deciding on Capitol Reef lodging, choose the Slot Canyons Inn in Escalante for its fantastic accommodations and its close proximity to other scenic attractions, including Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument and Bryce Canyon National Park. Located between Capitol Reef and Bryce Canyon, Slot Canyons Inn’s suites all include queen or king beds, DVD players and TVs. Most suites feature patios, jetted tubs and breathtaking views of the surrounding scenery. To add to their ambience and charm, some of our suites bear the names of local natural landmarks, including Spooky Gulch, Dance Hall Rock, and Calf Creek Falls. Setting us apart from Capitol Reef lodging options closer to the park, Slot Canyons Inn sits on a scenic 160-acre property that is home to the convergence of the Escalante River and North Creek. Guests can enjoy a private canyon, petroglyphs, ancient Indian ruins, and a two-tiered waterfall only a short stroll from their accommodations.
Known as the “Sleeping Rainbow” to local Native American tribes, Capitol Reef is a spectacle of rock monoliths, narrow canyons, arches, natural bridges, ancient rock art and the remnants of a pioneer settlement. The park received its name from the white sandstone domes (resembling the U.S. capitol and other capitol buildings) sitting atop some of its red sandstone cliffs. One of the park’s unique and striking features is the 100-mile long Waterpocket Fold, a ripple in the earth’s crust caused by a shift that revealed an ancient, buried fault. When choosing your Capitol Reef lodging headquarters, heavily consider Slot Canyons Inn. Our bed and breakfast can be your gateway to Capitol Reef, as well as other nearby natural wonders.
Visitors view the Capitol Reef’s outstanding scenery via a 25-mile scenic drive, four-wheel drive roads and numerous hiking trails. The park’s most visited section is near the remnants of the pioneer town of Fruita. The area is home to the park’s visitor center and 15 hiking trails appropriate for all ages and fitness levels, from steep ascents to smooth paths on level ground. These trails vary in length from 10 miles to ¼ mile. A few of the most popular trails in this section include strolls through narrow canyons (Grand Wash and Capitol Gorge) and climbs to one-of-a-kind natural rock formations (Cassidy Arch and Hickman Bridge). When you visit Capitol Reef, lodging near the park is not your best option. Instead, stay at the Slot Canyons Inn, which is an ideal springboard for scenic day trips and features interesting, little-known scenery on its own property!
